Main Beach Laguna Volleyball Club is entering its fourth season as a boys volleyball club based in Laguna Beach, serving all of south Orange County. The director, Kevin Lane, was formerly associated with, and coached teams for the Adam Johnson Volleyball Club. Adam has since moved his family to Austin, Texas, and has started a girls volleyball program.
We feel there is a need for more clubs in the area, especially clubs like ours whose focus is on play time, individual and team growth throughout the season, team spirit, friendships and enjoying the whole volleyball experience. In two years, we went from one team to five teams in the Fall of 2008!
Kevin has been certified through USA Volleyball's Coaching Accredidation Program and continues to further his coaching education, despite 30 plus years in volleyball.
All of our teams will be entered into each and every available SCVA tournament and will attend Junior Olympics depending on interest.
Tryouts
We will NEVER charge for tryouts. It is a contradiction in terms and we do not believe in it. Demanding that you pay for the chance to be charged more money for the season is beyond us. We are NOT in the money business. We do this because we WANT to do it. Parents have suggested that we charge; however we refuse to.
We will not hold tryouts early just to "get a jump" on other clubs. Starting two years ago, the SCVA ruled that tryouts could not take place before September 1st and that monetary committments can not be made to any club prior to October 1st. We abide by any and all CIF, USA Volleyball and SCVA rules and regulations.
Philosophy We believe in team dedication, accountability, responsibility, commitment, discipline, building friendships and making sure the players have a POSITIVE and FUN playing experience, WIN or LOSE. We feel that a player gains just as much experience from a loss as he/she does from a win. It is how that player responds to each situation that makes him/her grow as a player.
No Drama, No Politics=Main Beach Laguna Volleyball Club!
Our teams will be competitive but not at the risk of sacrificing what the sport of volleyball is all about and why we compete. Volleyball is an outlet for high school students and their academics should come first.
Players should come to practice willing to work hard, play hard and take instruction. The harder and more intense the practice/work ethic is, the easier it is to transition this work ethic to the volleyball court during tournaments. In other words, we will practice so that, come tournament time, each player is trained, relaxed, focused and ready to have a great experience!!! Try your best at practice and during matches. That is all we expect. In turn, you will succeed.
As we tell our players, "You play (in matches/tournaments) like you practice." Therefore, practices should be taken serious and viewed as a means to further the players' skills. At the same time, we will have fun! Ask current players and parents. We can provide you with as many references as you would like!
Players should, and will, respect their teammates, coaches, referees and the opposing teams. Negativity will not be tolerated. Too often we hear that a player did not have a positive experience playing club. We will right that ship.
We refuse to compare our club with other clubs. We simply encourage you to visit all clubs, see what each club has to offer and make your own decision.
You will be advised as to tournament schedules as soon as we know. We are very email active and want to make sure you know when and where your son is expected to be every step of the way. Communication is the key.
Parent Involvement Parent involvement is a vital part of a successful and positive club team. In every aspect of a player's life, whether it be school, athletics or community, parent involvement means greater success. Parents are encouraged to be involved in each player's club experience including organization of events, tournament support and cheering your child’s team on from the sidelines.
Coaching decisions are made based on many years of volleyball experience and evaluation of each player’s strengths and the teams’ needs. By joining our club you are entrusting those decisions to our coaching staff. An open door policy exists; however, during or immediately following a game, match or tournament is not the time. All communications are kept in confidence and are welcomed at the appropriate time.
If there is a situation or conflict that you feel needs to be addressed, we suggest the following:
The first step is for the player to talk to the person on the team involved in the situation or conflict (coach or teammate). The second step is for the parents(s) and the player to make an appointment to talk to the coach (but not on tournament day). The last step is for the parents(s) and the player to talk to the club director.
We promise we will never show up at your place of employment Monday morning and suggest how you should do things differently!
We want each and every player and parent to walk away at the end of the club volleyball season with a positive playing experience. We have remained friends with many of our former playeers and their parents.
You give 110% and so will we!!!
